Day 10: FEEL THE FEARS
We are hardwired to feel fear – it keeps us safe, after all. But a lot of us are also prone to inappropriate fears: fear of failure, fear of public speaking, fear of leaving bad relationships, whether personal or professional. Inappropriate fears have no positive purpose and they don’t actually serve the purpose of keeping us physically alive.
The first step to overcoming inappropriate fears is to know what they are. 😌
For the next few minutes, think about something that is uncomfortable or bothering you in your life right now – relationships with a colleague or a boss, your job, or something about the project you are engaged in. Think what is bothering you about it. Is there something you are afraid of – afraid to confront your colleague about their behavior, afraid to fail that important project, afraid to present that keynote in front of your management?
Make a list of everything you are afraid of. The process of setting your fears down on paper will help clarify your thinking and allow you to look at them more effectively, almost as if those fears belonged to somebody else. 😊
As the next step, next to every fear answer the following questions:
- 🌿 When this will happen (what I am afraid of), what happens then?
- 🌿 How does it affect me?
- 🌿 Is it really scary? And how can I cope with it?
Sometimes, you may notice, that digging deeper into your fears may open your eyes to how NOT SCARY all those things are and that they are not fatal at all. 😅
