Morning Coffee With Myself | Day 9: HOW DO I REALLY FEEL TODAY

Emotions are like a colorful palette of our inner world, with countless shades and patterns waiting to be explored. Unfortunately, we often neglect self-reflection and truly ‘feeling’ our emotions. It’s crucial for our mental well-being to stay attuned to our feelings because they provide essential insights.

Our emotions are valuable data sources, guiding us to rest when we’re exhausted 😴, connecting us with loved ones when we’re happy 😊, and empowering us to stand up for ourselves when we’re hurt or undervalued 💪.

Naming and recognizing our emotions is a key step to self-connection. The emotional spectrum is broader than we may express in our vocabulary 🌈.

Take a moment to explore this range of emotions and feelings. Read through the names and see if any resonate with your current state of mind.

Happy. Sad. Angry. Excited. Calm. Anxious

Confident. Insecure. Relieved. Frustrated

Surprised. Disappointed. Grateful. Envious

Joyful. Content. Bored. Curious. Nervous

Hopeful. Guilty. Empathetic. Sympathetic

Scared. Lonely. Loved. Pleased. Regretful

Proud. Indifferent. Irritated. Jealous. Overwhelmed

The list may just help you find the right word, but tune into yourself and find out the right words for how you feel. It may not be on the list here, because the range is so much broader.

Now, identify 1 emotion that best represents how you feel today. Write it down, either on paper or digitally, with the simple phrase: ‘Now I feel…’ 💬

When you have the phrase in front of you, sit with your emotion/feeling for a few minutes. Don’t try to explain it, don’t resist it, just let it be, while you try to feel it to the fullest and acknowledge your feelings. Notice how your emotion feels in the body. Notice where this emotion is located and how it feels – warm in your chest, pressure on your shoulders, or a tickling feeling in your stomach. Spend a few minutes with these feelings 😌
