Much like computers 🖥️, our brains 🧠 function at their best when they’re not bogged down by too many background tasks.
An excess of thoughts can overwhelm our minds, causing them to slow down. To clear our minds, we practice ‘brain dumping’ 🗒️. It’s simple: Take 5 minutes to transcribe every thought from your mind onto paper, whether those are your worries about the world 🌍 or a grocery list 🛒.
By transferring these thoughts from your head to paper, your brain gains the space it needs to do the things it can do the best —organizing, processing, and strategizing. 🧘♂
After you have ‘dumped’ all the current thoughts and worries onto a paper, now it’s time for categorizing:
- ✨ 1. What are items in this list that you cannot influence or change? What are the things here out of your control and influence?
- ✨ 2. What are the items here that are out of your control, but you can influence them to some extent? Like, you cannot make your boss change his mind and give you that promotion you have asked for, but you can prepare and plan the next conversation with them and communicate you are still interested and that you will work hard towards your personal career goals. Maybe, ask for help additionally. 🤝
- ✨ 3. What are the items in the list that are in your control? How do you want to proceed with them? Make a plan, put it in your calendar – there it is, this is the thing to focus on. 📅🎯
